Scanner Not Charging or Won't Turn On
Why won't my scanner turn on or charge?
No drivers or software needed. ScanAvenger scanners work like a keyboard: connect them and start scanning into any app that accepts typing.
Check the ON/OFF switch
Only the SA1000, SA1100 and SA9300 have an ON/OFF switch. It has a short movement and can easily stop halfway, so push it fully to ON. These models don't charge while switched off.
All other models have no switch: press the scan button to wake them up.
Charge the scanner directly
- Plug the USB cable straight into the scanner, even if your model has a charging base. This shows whether the problem is the scanner or the base.
- Charge for at least 20 minutes before testing. A full charge takes about 2 to 3 hours, depending on the model.
Check the charging light
While the cable is plugged in, the light is red when the scanner is off or disconnected, or purple when the scanner is on and connected. If it's another color, flickers, or doesn't turn on, try a different cable:
- USB-C: SA1000, SA1100, SA1200, SA9200, SA9300 and SA9400. Most SA9200 units use USB-C, but some earlier versions use USB-B. Check your scanner's charging port before ordering a replacement cable.
- USB-B: SA3500, SA3600, SA8800, SA8900, SA9000 and SA9100.
Clean the charging base
The SA3600, SA9000, SA9200, SA9300 and SA9400 come with a charging base. If the scanner charges with the cable but not on the base, gently clean the pins on the base and the metal plates on the bottom of the scanner, then try again.
Try another port or device
Plug the cable into a different USB port, or into another computer or USB charger. Some ports don't give enough power to charge.
