How to Connect Your ScanAvenger Scanner via Bluetooth
Can I connect my scanner via Bluetooth?
No drivers or software needed. ScanAvenger scanners work like a keyboard: connect them and start scanning into any app that accepts typing.
What you need
- Your ScanAvenger scanner, charged. If the battery is low, charge it for at least 20 minutes first.
- A phone, tablet or computer with Bluetooth.
- The pairing barcodes below. Your scanner can read them straight from this screen. They're also in the Quick User Guide that came with your scanner.
Put the scanner in pairing mode
- Scan the Bluetooth Mode barcode:
- Scan the Pair barcode:
- The status light on the scanner starts flashing blue. The scanner is now ready to pair.
The status light is on top of most models, above the scan button on the SA1000 and SA1100, and on the side of the SA1200 ring scanner.
Pair it with your device
Open your device's Bluetooth settings and select ScanAvenger HID:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings > Bluetooth, then tap ScanAvenger HID.
- Android: Settings > Connected devices (or Bluetooth) > Pair new device, then tap ScanAvenger HID.
- Windows: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device > Bluetooth, then select ScanAvenger HID.
- Mac: System Settings > Bluetooth, then click Connect next to ScanAvenger HID.
When the status light turns solid blue, the scanner is connected. The menu names can differ slightly depending on your device and its software version.
Test the connection
- Open an app you can type into, such as Notes, Word or Google Docs.
- Tap or click where you want the text to go.
- Scan any barcode. The code appears where your cursor is.
On-screen keyboard hidden on a phone or tablet? Your device treats the scanner as a keyboard, so it can hide the on-screen keyboard. Quickly press the scan button twice to show it again, and twice more to hide it.
Switch between Bluetooth and the USB Dongle
You don't need to pair again each time you switch. The scanner remembers both connections:
- To switch back to the USB Dongle, scan the 2.4G Mode barcode:
- To go back to Bluetooth, scan the Bluetooth Mode barcode at the top of this page. The scanner reconnects to the last device it was paired with.
Troubleshooting
ScanAvenger HID doesn't appear in the list
Check that the status light is flashing blue. If it isn't, scan the Bluetooth Mode and Pair barcodes again. Keep the scanner close to your device while pairing.
The connection is unstable or keeps dropping
Remove ScanAvenger HID from your device's list of Bluetooth devices, turn Bluetooth off and on again, then repeat the steps on this page.
The scanner beeps when I scan, but nothing appears
On most models, 3 short low beeps mean the scanner isn't connected, so reconnect it using the steps above. 5 short beeps mean the battery is empty: charge the scanner for at least 20 minutes and try again.
Letters or symbols appear instead of numbers
The scanner uses the English (US) keyboard layout by default. If your computer or device uses a different keyboard language, some scanned characters may appear incorrectly. Contact us with your keyboard language, and we'll send you the matching code.
I need SPP or BLE mode for a custom app
These modes are for custom software and developer integrations. Contact us, and we'll send you the setup codes for your model.
